Here is the promised essay for my Norwich University Master's degree program in Diplomacy: Comments and criticisms are welcome. Honestly they are. {singrdave} Norwich University application essay 23 November 2005 The question of spreading democracy is on the minds of Americans these days. Is our American way of life the greatest thing around? Is democracy truly the best form of government for all the world's inhabitants? Democracy encourages intelligence, equality, and crea...

And you thought numerology was the only way to enlightenment... Alectromancy - uses letters inscribed in a circle, selected by rooster pecking grain. Bibliomancy - is divination by turning to random book passages. Bletonism - divines by observing swirling currents of water. Cephalomancy - Examines the boiled skull of an animal particularly goat or Donkey. Cromniomancy - divines using interpretation of the curved patterns found inside an onion. Dorze - throws fowl entrails on the...

I am trying to find academic articles on democracy for a short application essay to Norwich University's Master of Arts program in Diplomacy. So I Googled a broad topic: 'Democracy'. And the first hit I got was this: http://www.fordemocracy.com And I found such scholarly articles as this: By their acts and declarations the Teleban Dictatorship and their terrorists allied have clearly announced their doctrine: Kill as many civilian as you can as long as they are not Muslims ...

Some thoughts on what a dog would ask God about the nature of the universe and his relationship to it... TO: GOD FROM: DOG Dear God: Why do humans smell the flowers, but seldom, if ever, smell one another? Dear God: When we get to heaven, can we sit on your couch? Or is it still the same old story? Dear God: Why are there cars named after the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang, the colt, the stingray, and the rabbit, but not ONE named for a dog? How often do y...

From Reuters: How do you like your kangaroo -- medium rare? Doesn't sound too appealing, does it? So in a bid to make Australia's national icon more palatable, Food Companion International magazine and the Kangaroo Industry Association of Australia are running a competition to find a more palatable culinary name for the meat of the hopping marsupials. More than 300 entries have already been received from around the world including marsu (taken from marsupial), marla and wallagang (der...

In today's Washington Post, Howard Kurtz writes about how wonderful and exemplary Mary Mapes thinks she is: (the link is to a subscribed site, so I will type it out from my copy of today's paper) Investigative reporters are, by their nature, dogged, tenacious, and deeply suspicious, crashing through official roadblocks as they chase the most elusive stories. Some of them continue that quest long after their support evaporates, their evidence crumbles and even their employers abandon...

Well, it has finally happened. SFC Randy Silver sent me an email: SGT {Singrdave}, I am SFC Randy Silver, Army Reserve Career Counselor in Baltimore, MD. Please contact me as soon as possible about your Army reserve status. Oh boy, I get to call this guy and tell him no in no uncertain terms. I remember reading X-SPC-NS's "Heart Attack!" blog entry about how they are ruthless (without ruth?) in their recruitment efforts. (Thanks, Nadeon!) And they take one accidental 'yes' a...

The Washington Nationals moved from Montreal last year and had a great season. Far outpaced the Expos of old, which surprised a lot of people. Sorry, I digress already... They have been playing at RFK Stadium, which is apparently inadequate for their needs. The owner of the Washington Nationals, which is Major League Baseball itself (long story), insists that the town build the team a brand spanking new stadium, complete with its own Metro station and all that. And today's Washingto...

When my wife and I got our Maryland drivers licenses the other day at the MVA , we also registered to vote in our new state. The cards came in the mail Saturday. And, though I didn't realize it at the time, the forms did not ask us which party affiliation we wanted. So they said 'unaffiliated'. Is there a way to get them affiliated? Am I going to be able to vote in primaries? Checked the Maryland Voter Registration website . No mention of party affiliation, or what my status ac...

Channeling Jerry Seinfeld: So what's the deal with these iPod things? Are they really that great? I went to the Apple store in Annapolis Mall the other day, and it was a cool store. The iPods were amazing, though. They hold like every song I have ever heard, and they weigh like the same as a lettuce leaf. I appeal to those who already own one! Please give me a consumer review. Sell me on one, please... I'd like to justify it to my wife so I don't have to buy one for myself for...

From The Chaser of Australia: article President Bush has found another job for his friend and failed Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers, appointing her to defend another embattled friend, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, after his indictment for perjury. "Harriet Miers is the ideal candidate to represent Scooter in court," the President announced. "She's a wonderful Christian, a loyal friend and I know her heart. What more could you want, apart from maybe legal skills?" But Mr Libby has rejec...
