Apparently anything Mormon Church-related has everything to do with the ongoing struggle for legalized gay marriage nationwide. Even the tragic burning-to-the-ground of an LDS chapel in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Sunday should be seen in light of how awful the Mormon Church is for opposing gay marriage in California. The article is quite sympathetic but it is accompanied by the photo below: CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- A fire that began during Sunday morning services at a crowded Massachusetts c...

Ann Coulter chanting "VOTE ROMNEY" on FOX News yesterday. Rush Limbaugh detailing for his entire three hours exactly why a McCain nomination will destroy the Republican Party. Sean Hannity repeating the same four talking points over and over and over... oh wait, that's normal. But those talking points are about how horrible a senator and president McCain has been and will be, respectively. Well, just another Super Tuesday has come and gone. And the conservative punditry is ablaze...

For all the hoopla and falderall regarding the Super-Duper, Ultra-Mega Tuesday primary elections today, it makes me wish I was part of the madness. If I could vote today, I could get caught up in it all. But for now, I'm a dispassionate observer. Since I am a registered Maryland Republican, all I can do is sit back and let the rest of the country decide my nominee for me. Frustrated? Yes.

My good friend Lisa-Marie is British but she's moved to the US after marrying an American. She's currently getting her citizenship the right way, through spending the money and the time rather than just hunkering down and waiting for a political amnesty decision. So she's one of these legal immigrants that I am okay with. In fact, I'm all in favor of her sopecifically since she is a friend. Now hear her dismay in a recent email as to how the system works. Or doesn't work, as the case m...

Recently Department of Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff toyed with the idea of cutting off federal security funding to cities that have declared themselves "sanctuary cities" for illegal immigrants. From the Washington Times : Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff [on Sept 5th] told a House panel that his agency will not tolerate interference by so-called "sanctuary cities" when it comes to hiring illegal aliens. Mr. Chertoff said his agency will enforce the Basic ...

The city of Herndon, Virginia, has a problem that they thought they'd solved. Two years ago, the residents of this northern Virginia town complained about the influx of day laborers on their streetcorners and in their yards. The complaints ranged from loitering to public defecation and urination in people's yards. These laborers, mostly poor illegal immigrants, were especially thick around a particular 7-Eleven parking lot, where they would wait for employers to solicit them for work. (...

You! Yes, you. I'm talking to you. Did you get in on the low, low interest rates a couple of years ago by taking out a home loan? Are you the one who borrowed far more than your credit or your income would allow? This is your signature I see on those contracts and mortgage forms. You did sign those the papers of your own free will and choice, didn't you? Did you spend that money speculating in the South Florida, Washington DC, Las Vegas, and San Francisco markets, buying up...

This morning the New York Times is reporting that Alberto Gonzales has resigned. The protracted Gonzales character assassination has afflicted Washington for a couple of months now. Calls for his resignation have been superceded with accusations of perjury and mismanagement. It has been a long several months of hearings and recrimination. From the New York Times : Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, whose tenure has been marred by controversy and accusations of perjury b...

Good morning all, The current long-haul presidential campaign has scrutinized every aspect of the candidates' lives. A recent media scan of Facebook found that Rudy Giuliani's own daughter was in a group supporting Barack Obama . This particular father-daughter enmity was a result of Rudy's divorce from this particular daughter's mother, which was played out quite publicly during his tenure as Mayor of New York. The inevitable question was why he should expect loyalty from voters whe...

The turnout of the recent elections gives Americans the opportunity to mend our spendthrift ways and become fiscally responsible, both governmentally and personally. Otherwise, they fear the American economy will lose its status as the standard for world economic stability. Probable Democratic solutions for the problem at hand are as follows: 1. Raise taxes. 2. Cut benefits. Raise the minimum retirement age to save Social Security. 3. Adopt a "pay as you go" philosophy to federal sp...

The price of oil hit an all-time high of over $77 per barrel today. Okay, please somebody explain this to me: The price is skyrocketing because of a war... over no oil reserves? Israel and Lebanon have essentially gone to war. Neither nation has oil, so no oil reserves are threatened in their battle. Their skirmishes do not cross any oil shipping lanes, like the Suez Canal, so they're not disrupting the flow of oil through the region. They're not jeopardizing any pipelines. Oi...

Looks as though the American economy is improving and the deficit is shrinking! Much to the chagrin of our resident doomsayer(s). From TODAYonline : The projected US budget deficit unexpectedly has shrunk by some 100 billion dollars, thanks to an increase in tax revenue from corporations and wealthy Americans, a US newspaper reported. . The White House is on Tuesday to release figures showing the budget deficit to be about 100 billion dollars less than projected six months ago...

I believe that marriage is between one man and one woman. And that only a constitutional amendment defining marriage is the only way to protect marriage from those who would corrupt it. Since obviously the will of the people is being overridden by the judicial system in each individual state. Last week, I was inspired to write to my Senators, Sens. Paul Sarbanes (D-MD) and Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) regarding the so-called marriage protection amendment. This legislation was to come before ...

Apparently the Democrats are pandering to the Hispanic community for votes in new ways: telling them it's their right as "people in our country" to vote, regardless of their legal citizenship status. From Sign On San Diego : If an election can turn on a sentence, this could be the one: "You don't need papers for voting." On Thursday night, Francine Busby, the Democratic candidate for the 50th Congressional District, was speaking before a largely Latino crowd in Escondido when she...

Talk about truth in politics. For those of you out there who may think that "BIG OIL" is responsible for the price run-ups of the past several months/years, and who cry and moan and complain about it on and on... ...well just remember a little something from Assemblyman Ray Haynes of California : Do you want to reduce the price of gasoline by almost 60 cents a gallon immediately? Get the real price gougers. They take nearly 60 cents of every $3.00 gallon of gas. They should pay the...
