Apparently anything Mormon Church-related has everything to do with the ongoing struggle for legalized gay marriage nationwide. Even the tragic burning-to-the-ground of an LDS chapel in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Sunday should be seen in light of how awful the Mormon Church is for opposing gay marriage in California. The article is quite sympathetic but it is accompanied by the photo below: CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- A fire that began during Sunday morning services at a crowded Massachusetts c...

Today is " Relive Your Past By Listening to the First Music You Ever Bought No Matter What It Was No Excuses Day"!  So what was the first music you ever bought? My first record, embarrassing as it is, was "I Never Knew Love Like This Before" by Stephanie Mills. It was a 45, it was 1980 and yes, it was disco. I remember listening to that song all the time seeing as I had no others. Eventually, I moved up to the Muppet Movie soundtrack and actual '80s pop music.  In f...

Arizona and Florida have effectively banned same-sex marriage.  California's decision is still forthcoming, but as on 9:00 AM EST on Wednesday morning, the votes echo those cast in AZ and FL. And now for the effects: I got a very serious email this morning from my lesbian friend, mourning the dissolution of her marriage. http://singrdave.joeuser.com/article/327531/Civil_Unions_v_Same-Sex_Marriage ------------------------------------------ Well Dave you helped do it. You as a s...

Here is a fascinating article -- Hugo Chavez wants to meet with "the black man" who he predicts will win the White House tomorrow.  What's even more fascinating is how Reuters is burying the article in the wrong section and the wrong subsection.  Read the article below and please tell me why it's posted under Reuters Africa / Energy and Oil ?  Is this an attempt to suppress the story? Chavez offers talks with "black man" in W.House Mon 3 Nov 2008, 0:30 GMTC...

I passed two people on my walk from the parking lot this morning who were discussing their kids. This is the extent of the conversation I heard:   "My kids are still little and at home." "Yeah, my kids are grown up and out of the house.  In fact, I sent both my daughters to four years of college and all they're doing is raising kids at home."   I can't let that kind of blinkard stupidity go unchallenged.  I turned around and told the man (after apologizing for ...

Why is it that I get such amazing questions from my friends? This letter is from a wonderful Italian girl who was a foreign exchange student at my high school.  She's now married and lives in Egypt, spending her days scuba diving with her instructor husband and apparently talking about American domestic policy. ---------------------------------------------- Everybody is talking about it ... and ... I don't have a real opinion yet! HELP!!!! I need some insider info. Now, we E...

An email this morning from a friend of mine from high school brought up a very interesting question. Background: she and I dated for a little while in high school, but broke up after about six months. Time passed and we stayed in touch, off and on. After a failed marriage and four kids, she came out of the closet and is now in a committed relationship with a woman. ---------------------------------------- You know I have always been straight forward, so I seriously have a question. How can...

Actors Ben Affleck, Quentin Tarantino, Warren Beatty, Annette Benning, Forrest Whitaker, Edward Norton, and Susan Sarandon as well as musicians Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, and Wyclef Jean have all been confirmed as attending the DNC convention in Denver this August. Alice Cooper said it best: "When I was a kid and my parents started talking about politics, I'd run to my room and put on the Rolling Stones as loud as I could. So when I see all these rock stars up there talking politics, it ...

I'm going to be honest with you guys and do something I've frequently hesitated to do: reveal a real, ongoing problem at home. My son failed four classes last semester with no relief in sight. Our oldest son, Ben, was in a charter school that focused on math, science, and technology. A perfect fit for our really bright son, we thought. But since his sixth grade year (he's halfway through 7th grade now), they've sent home hours and hours of homework in addition to the intense class w...

Ann Coulter chanting "VOTE ROMNEY" on FOX News yesterday. Rush Limbaugh detailing for his entire three hours exactly why a McCain nomination will destroy the Republican Party. Sean Hannity repeating the same four talking points over and over and over... oh wait, that's normal. But those talking points are about how horrible a senator and president McCain has been and will be, respectively. Well, just another Super Tuesday has come and gone. And the conservative punditry is ablaze...

For all the hoopla and falderall regarding the Super-Duper, Ultra-Mega Tuesday primary elections today, it makes me wish I was part of the madness. If I could vote today, I could get caught up in it all. But for now, I'm a dispassionate observer. Since I am a registered Maryland Republican, all I can do is sit back and let the rest of the country decide my nominee for me. Frustrated? Yes.

If by 2050 the Chinese and European economies are indeed larger than America’s, then this is no need for concern. The United States (US) has been the recipient of decades of economic supremacy, as it escaped World War II (WWII) with its economy largely intact. This was in opposition to Europe, whose land saw lots of fighting -- the economies of the nations of Europe suffered for it. Half of Europe was under the yoke of Communism. The destruction of Western Europe’s infrastructure took dec...

By the end of the Second World War (WWII), Europe and Japan were in shambles. The United Nations (UN) was established after WWII to prevent war from breaking out again. It was not founded to govern over the myriad nations of the earth, but rather to preserve the sovereignty of each through international oversight and action. All nations could have a seat in the General Assembly, but only five nations would comprise the UN Security Council: the United States (US), France, the United Kingdom...
