I am sick to the teeth of these celebrities who think that their opinions on social issues matter. Natalie Portman, Sharon Stone, Michael Moore, Barbra Streisand, Ben Affleck, and Dave Grohl (among many many others) feel compelled to speak out on everything from foreign policy to global warming, when they are not even qualified to speak out about shoe styles or hair color treatments. The danger is when the idolized celeb decides to champion a cause celebre, like global warming or the fur t...

Y'know, the Department of Defense is so crazy about keeping things under wraps. They don't even want me to tell anyone who I work for. But I will go out on a limb and let you know exactly who it is I work for. I'll probably get in trouble for this, but... My job! Hope this sheds some light on my "clandestine" job.

We are trying to get our cars registered and inspected here in Maryland. What a waste of time. First of all, it takes 1 1/2 hours to complete the inspection. THEN the emissions test. Then take the proof to the MVA and wait... in... line. Then pay through the nose at each step of the torture just to enjoy the privilege. Then get into another line to get your actual drivers license. This is for two drivers, two vehicles. My wife figured that all told, we'd be down about $5...

Well, I have got to say, as a card-carrying Republican and a quite conservative person, I have a guilty pleasure. I think that The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is one of the funniest shows I have ever watched. Consistently the headlines knock me right over with their ability to skewer the day's events. Jon Stewart's delivery is flawless and cunning. The interviews are annoying in their over-the-top-ness, but occasionally they'll find some unsuspecting dupe who will either blithely fe...

Try Link or try Link . Excellent resources for truly inane and useless facts. Some stuff even I didn't know! And I thought I was the source for all things dull and pointless, all trivialities great and small. Dictionary.com says... n. pl. mi·nu·ti·ae (-sh-) A small or trivial detail: the minutiae of experimental and mathematical procedure (Frederick Turner). So it's not only me that loves this stuff. Or remembers this stuff.

The door to my new job is just down the hall from a nondescript door. The door's placard says "Corporate Machine Room". Finally! I have found the corporate machine. Now do I join it, or do I rage against it?

What a film! Super genius! Cracking good fun, wouldn't you say, Gromit? I have got to hand it to Nick Park, he has a skill that has been honed to a finely-tuned art. His ability to make stop-motion photography into a seamless, flawless moving picture is beyond belief. Such an entertaining film. I have been a fan of the original Oscar-winning short cartoons for years, as have my children, but Curse of the Were-Rabbit was more than just a longer version of the originals. It de...

Sixty years ago, the International Military Tribunal held what has come to be known as the Nuremberg Trials, which endeavored to judge all the people who had been complicit in the Nazi Party and Germany's instigation of war. The point was to ferret out and prosecute all those who inflicted Nazi rule on an unsuspecting Europe. I quote from Wikipedia, which is much more concise than the official sites: The Nuremberg Trials is the general name for two sets of trials of Nazis involved i...

My wife and I decided to check out some of the things around us last night as a family activity. Officially, it's called Family Home Evening , but we thought we'd have a Family OUT Evening. So we went down to Washington DC. Okay, so we were sightseeing in our Nation's Capital last night. We were driving past the Washington Monument when my wife, who has been thumbing through the Family Fun guide to Washington DC , mentions that there is a free concert series at the Kennedy Center ever...

Bought the Special Edition DVD of Holy Grail on Friday after work, used at EB Games. So, Friday night we let the kids stay up late (ooh, 9:30) and watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Link Man, did they love it. Ben is still singing the Camelot song. Link Then we found the Lego version of the same song, as a special feature on the DVD. Okay, lately I have been compiling a mental list of films that I wish that I had never seen, so that I could watch them without knowing what was about to happen or, in some cases, know the dialogue so cold that I can recite the jokes along with the actors. 1. Monty Python and the Holy Grail --- I would love to see these jokes for the first time again! 2. Airplane --- See above. 3. The Sixth Sense --- My wife and I were pissed that the ending was spoiled for us. Thank you, Frank...

Oh my goodness... check this out. Link Ummm, yikes. Here's an excerpt from the press release and article, the British paper the Telegraph : "The short film pulls no punches. It opens with the Smurfs dancing, hand-in-hand, around a campfire and singing the Smurf song. Bluebirds flutter past and rabbits gambol around their familiar village of mushroom- shaped houses until, without warning, bombs begin to rain from the sky. Tiny Smurfs scatter and run in vain from the whis...

Well, it's time for Louis Farrakhan and his crazy people are massing on the Mall tomorrow. It's to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the "Million Man March" . Hmmm... it gives one pause. Did it really do any good? Did it make the world better for single-parent black families ? And what about the GLAAD response? Who knew there WAS a GLAAD response ? And here's the reaction from an unapologetically white man who was there : My question is, what has gotten better becaus...
