Where would you take a tourist?

Here's a question for everyone, regardless of where you are...

A friend from abroad who has never been to your country before is coming to stay with you.

Name up to three places, attractions, or events that you'd be sure to take him or her to!

For example, I would take my visitor to the Grand Canyon

or Washington DC.

If money was no object? i would have a blast showing off the country, but seeing as I'm on the poor side lately.....Austin or Dallas. See the Capital, tour Ft Hood, depending on the season, maybe a festival of some sort.....

Yeah, money and domestic geography no object.

I'll Keep it local so that others may share theirs.  But first would be Colonial Williamsburg, then DC, Finally Skyline Drive.  Lots more, but I think those would interest them the most.

So much to choose from!

One of our great cities, one of our natural wonders, and one of our cultural artifacts.

New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles...

The Grand Canyon, the Rockies, the Everglades...

Disneyland, the Mall (Washington, D.C.), the Jet Propulsion Laboratory...

I'd take them:

Skydiving at the "Point of the Mountain" in Utah (one of 4 or 5 places in the world where you can gain altitude under a parachute)...

then down to the "Subway" in Southern Utah...

and climbing in the Grand Tetons in Wyoming/Idaho.

If they like that stuff, I will hook up with you!  No thanks!  I got dizzy looking at the first picture!

Hmmmm...this is hard.

I think Yellowstone is really unique. There's not many places in the world with such geothermal activity. I think San Diego is beautiful.

One more thing. The Spam Musem.

The Spam Museum.

In Austin MN? At the Hormel factory? Excellent choice. I had a couple friends take a road trip/pilgrimage to the SPAM factory.
You know what is within about two hours' drive from here? The Harley-Davidson Factory, in York PA. You can take a tour and watch the assembly line roll out new hogs. You can even pre-order a new bike and they'll arrange for you to come to the factory and watch it being assembled. Then they gas it up and you can drive it away.

There are A LOT of neat things on the island, but if I had to pick three:

1. Hanauma Bay

It was a volcanic crater, and its outer wall was broken down by the ocean. It's really green and beautiful, the water is a clear turquoise and the sand is nice and soft. It's pretty shallow, and home to so many different kinds of fish, including some that are found no where else on earth. It's the perfect place to go snorkeling.

2. The Arizona National Memorial

It's a really heart-breaking but inspiring piece of history. The museum has pieces from the wreckage. The tour includes actual video of the attack, and I really can't describe what it's like to look down on the sunken Arizona. It's an intense, emotional place to visit.

3. Tie: Altantis Submarine Tour or Germaine's Luau

The Atlantis Submarine Tour takes you waaay down in the ocean near Waikiki. You see sunken ships and airplanes, and depending on how lucky you are, you'll see all kinds of fish including sharks and sea turtles.

Germaine's Luau is a Hawaiian feast with lots of activities. They server the traditional food including kalua pork cooked in an imu. While you eat, you can watch dancers representing various Polynesian islands (some of the most beautiful women you'll ever see) and male fire dancers. There's a lot of humor and crowd-involvement, too.
