I joined a choir!

Well, I have done it. With my wife's permission, I have joined the Mormon Choir of Washington DC.

They meet every Thursday night for a couple of hours of singing and I am loving it. I went and auditioned last week and that was brutal. I studied choral music at Eastern Arizona College, but it has been many years since I did any kind of challenging sight singing. Other than reading hymns out of the hymnal at church... and it wasn't easy. I am very rusty. They were very kind and let me sing with them anyway... they must be needy for Tenors.

Then the actual singing began. Since it was the first practice of the new year, and their first practice after the Christmas season, they all had new music. It was adventures in sight reading for everyone! They are a very talented group, and I am extrememly excited to sing with them.

I say that I have my wife's permission because that was a big deal. It's hard for her to take care of the kids while I'm bouncing back and forth to Northern Virginia for rehearsals one night a week. On Thursday nights, I basically have to leave straight from work and high-tail it down to NoVA before the traffic on the Beltway hits. The rehearsal site is in McLean, VA, which is about 45 minutes each way from wher I work/live. So it's not only a two-hour rehearsal, but another hour-and-a-half-ish (depending on traffic) added on to my time commitment. Yikes.

But totally worth it. My wife seems okay with it, even though I had to go extra early last week for the audition. There's a couple of other singers locally, and we'll probably carpool down together. So a good time should be had by all!

I will keep you updated with performance dates and times, and any JUsers in MD/VA/DC/WV are welcome to come and enjoy!

Let's see, Dharma's son on Drums, Parated on Guitar, and you doing vocals!  I think we have the start of the All JU band here!

Now let's find a common rehearsal space. Somewhere equidistant from Maryland, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

Equidistant? Hmmm.......Ft. Hood's about equidistant, isn't it? The further you go, the more equitable it becomes. Maybe Ecuador. Babbling again, aren't I? Congratulations, maybe I'll run up there (almost definitely not literally) and here ya'll sing in a couple of months.

Awesome, the JUser Band needs piano accompaniment.

Congratulations, maybe I'll run up there (almost definitely not literally) and here ya'll sing in a couple of months.

I think we're going to have a small concert on Feb 11th (Saturday). I will update this space with more details.

Practicing for the ultra-marathon? You're only down at Belvoir for AIT, right? Maybe you can make it a field trip! You are always welcome, as is Dr. Guy (I know those Richmond types don't like the trip to DC very much)!
