Go Colts!

Yep, it is that time of year... I mean, decade... I mean, ummm... century... where the record book stands up and cheers. Time to move the '72 Dolphins down a line and make room for the '05 Indianapolis Colts!

I am absolutely behind anything Tony Dungy has to do to get the Colts to 16-0.

Except get Peyton Manning hurt. Or Edgerrin James.

Or, in the process, lose the Super Bowl.

Is it about the ring, or is it about the undefeated season?
Hmmm... maybe it is the ring after all? Or the season? Are they mutually exclusive?

GO COLTS!
16-0! --AND/OR-- ALL THE WAY TO THE SUPER BOWL!

On the one hand, I should shoot myself for cheering for the Colts.

Why? you ask --

#1 because they shouldn't be called the Colts. That name should have stayed in Baltimore when Irsay stole the team away in the middle of the nite even though they were still among the best supported teams in the league at the time.

#2 because the Colts history should have stayed in Baltimore, much as the Browns history had to stay in Cleveland. I heard comments today about records being set and broken by current Colts players. Records that were set many years ago by the one and only true Colts -- the Baltimore Colts. Indianapolis should never have been able to keep the Colts history once they moved away from Baltimore.

#3 because Irsay was, and still is for the most part one of the crappiest owners in the league. While I don't wish ill on Tony Dungy, Peyton Manning, Edgerin James, Marvin Harrison and the rest of the current Colts players, I would prefer that any undefeated team not be the Indy Colts. Make it Baltimore maybe, make it Washington, sure (especially since they were the team that was the last to fall to the undefeated Dolphins), Greenbay, or some other team in the league. Then I might not be so torn on supporting the undefeated season.

You see, I hate the Dolphins and that whole stinkin' crew of geezers that pops those Champagne bottles and celebrates every year when the last undefeated team falls. I keep hoping that someone will put that record away. The Chiefs looked good at one point. The Colts this season, and a few others along the way, but so far none have done it.

Sadly it's even thougher to do now than back when the Dolphins did it. They had a shorter schedule, and the longer schedule and the grind from the season now, with bigger athletes beating on each other makes it that much tougher. By the time you get to 10 or 11 straight wins, there's a big target on your back and other teams are pumping themselves up just because they want to knock off the unbeatens.

I'd love to see those old sour-pusses have to suck on stale champagne and beer for once, but this isn't the year apparently. And if that is the case, I will go back to hoping for good things for the Colts players, but wishing very ill on their ownership. Their ownership and the ownership of the Arizona Cardinals would be my top choices for a reality TV version of the show LOST. Set them on an Island somewhere and see if anyone really cared to come find them.

Bill Bidwill is also a terrible owner. Like Irsay, my opinion is: "What a tool."
Bidwill took a bad franchise in St. Louis and turned it into a worse franchise in Phoenix. At least the Mexican food is better there, and you can play golf all winter long.
I wanted to see some history!
