Go Colts!

Yep, it is that time of year... I mean, decade... I mean, ummm... century... where the record book stands up and cheers. Time to move the '72 Dolphins down a line and make room for the '05 Indianapolis Colts!

I am absolutely behind anything Tony Dungy has to do to get the Colts to 16-0.

Except get Peyton Manning hurt. Or Edgerrin James.

Or, in the process, lose the Super Bowl.

Is it about the ring, or is it about the undefeated season?
Hmmm... maybe it is the ring after all? Or the season? Are they mutually exclusive?

GO COLTS!
16-0! --AND/OR-- ALL THE WAY TO THE SUPER BOWL!

Time to roll out the old movie "The shoot Horses, dont they?"

There are some excellent football movies. That is not one of them! ::

If you mean the Broncos, it is.
I have to root for the Chargers to take them down though.... The Colts are my 2nd favorite AFC team.
on Dec 09, 2005
I would be ecstatic if they go all the way to the superbowl and then lose miserably.

I'd be just as happy if they lose in the first round of the playoffs, though.

(Yeah, I'm holding a grudge. I'm from Baltimore.)

They're going to lose against the Chargers in week 16.
Just watch.

So you're a Baltimore Jailbird fan? ::

They'll probably choose to sit Manning and James down in the Arizona Cardinal game and then lose at the last possible second. (Wait, that would mean the Cards would have to win a game. Not gonna happen then...)

Baltimore: A good place to be from.

To be honest, I'm a Texans fan... (here's hoping for the heisman!)
However, I would love for the Colts to go undefeated, that would be awesome! (I am praying that they don't sit Manning, he's on my FF team and I'm in the playoffs, doh!)

Sorry, but I love those '72 Dolphins! It isn't time just yet.

With that said....Go Seahawks!

I'm not a Indianapolis fan but I am a Tony Dungy fan and I do think the Colts will go undefeated and win the Super Bowl.

All the stars have lined up to make it happen.

Other teams like the Patriots that have given the Colts fits are decimated by injuries. Jacksonville, who has always played them tough, lost Leftwich for the year.

The Colts which were built to play indoors on fast fields will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs until the Super Bowl, which is also being played indoors at Ford Field in Detroit.

Another advantage of playing in Detroit will be the cold weather. Not because it will effect playing conditions but because players will most likely stay indoors in their hotel rooms. Less likely to get in any off field troubles.

Then you have Peyton Manning who wants to lose the 'he can't win the big one' label so I expect him to be even better in the playoffs. And you have Tony Dungy, who like Manning wants to prove he can win the big one also. He should've won a Super Bowl with Tampa Bay instead of Chuckie.

Only teams that can stop them in my opinion are AFC teams. I don't think a NFC can match-up with them. New England and Jacksonville could but won't for reasons I already stated. San Diego could but won't because they won't even make the playoffs. If anybody needs a new coach is the Chargers. Schottenheimer is too conservative at times much like he was when his Cleveland teams should have at least made one Super Bowl. (Guess you CAN'T teach an old dogs new tricks). Pittsburgh despite losing to them already this year could beat them with their running game but won't because of Cowher's inability to coach AFC Championship games (see his record in them).

If the Colts do go undefeated it will be a far more impressive season than the '72 Dolphins. In the age of free agents, salary caps, and set schedules that make teams with winning records from the previous year play tougher games no one thought an undefeated season was possible. Plus the Dolphins only played 2 games against teams that had winning records in the regular season. And those teams were both only 8-6.

I don't know if it's because I like Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy or just my hatred of seeing those former Dolphin players celebrate with champagne every year when the last unbeaten team gets beat but I'm still going to say: Go Colts!!!

The true question, which will be answered tomorrow, is whether or not Dungy will play to win or play to survive. If he's playing to survive, don't expect great field time for Manning, James, and the big starters. Sorry, fantasy leaguers!
But if you see Peyton in the game past the second quarter, then they're going all the way. Good luck not getting injured, though.

I'm not a Indianapolis fan but I am a Tony Dungy fan

I have also been a Dungy-watcher since his days in Tampa.

That is an incredibly good point that I had totally overlooked.

GO COLTS!

Bahhumbug.

I think it's enough that they a) clinched their division just a hair over halfway through the season (probably a record) and have already clinched homefield advantage through the playoffs ... and this with over a month left to play in the regular season. GAH!!!!

Anywho, *crosses fingers* - I'm hoping that Washington manages to pull their collective heads out of their collective asses and beat Dallas tomorrow (one of those "who do I root against?" games ... And if the Giants' defense can continure making up for Manning's rookie wishy-washy-ness (you, too, can make up words with the Chaos Manager Word Management System(TM))

Can you tell that I'm a Giants fan?
on Dec 17, 2005
Manning's rookie wishy-washy-ness

Don't feel out of place. I used a similar word to describe Jimmy Carter in a recent article. If I remember right, I used "wishywashyness" too. And "milquetoast".

already clinched homefield advantage through the playoffs

And that's why the third quarter is the key: if Peyton (not wishy Eli) starts after the half, they're goin' for the perfect season.

Man, I thought it was a done deal. A closed book.
Then those crazy Chargers did what everyone thought was impossible:

THEY BEAT THE COLTS.

Go figure. I honestly did not think the Colts were stoppable.
I still see a Super Bowl ring. And that's why Dungy gets a paycheck: to win Indy a ring. Not a 16-0 season, unless you then proceed to get a ring.

So the season's not dead. I just wanted to see a little history.
