My kids are so funny. We just moved here from Texas, so this is our first true winter since 1998. We're not used to snow. We're not familliar with snow. We see movies about snow, but we just don't seem to get any snow. Not the real lasting kind, certainly. We had ice storms in Texas, but no real snow of any volume.
So last night my kids were in a tizzy. The weather forecast predicted 2-5 inches of snow for us, as much as 6-10 inches down in northern Virginia (sorry Dr. Guy and Pseudosoldier's mom and dad...)
My kids were bouncing off the walls in anticipation of a snow day. My older son, Ben, actually slept with his blinds drawn so he'd be able to see out this morning. He really wanted a school closure, because he has a Christmas concert tonight at school, where he has to play his saxophone and he wasn't that excited. More reasons not to go to school...

And... (drum roll please...)

maybe 2 inches of snow.
Two hour delay.

So my 7-year-old son, Dylan, says, "We can go outside and play in the snow! Build snowmen and stuff!"
Yeah, good luck with that. We'll dress you up, though, and you can definitely go outside for those two hours extra!

They were calling for 3-6, and we got 4.  A respectable amount for this area. And very unusual for this time of year (we usually dont get any measureable stuff until January).  And Sunday it was 64!

Welcome to the Mid Atlantic!  You dont like the weather?  No problem.  It will change tomorrow!

Doesn't that statement work everywhere?

I was riding my bike in shorts on Saturday. Tomorrow, they are talking freezing precip here ... in Louisiana. This is, however, the time of year we are most likely to see that sort of thing.

Probably.  But this was Sunday to Monday!  Not Saturday to Wednesday.  However, Freezing Precip in Louisiana?  Give me a break!  That is against nature's law! I would check out who down there is pissing off Mother nature!

The snowstorm was anticlimactic to say the least.

The worst time I had was keeping my windshield clean from road grime and salt on the way to work.

I'll be happy to send you a truckload of snow for the kids to play in... It's been snowing here for the past week!

But at least your city is clean!

My favorite part was the kids wore their pajamas inside out and backwards to bed that night.
They were told by their teachers that was the best way to bring a snow day.
Cute! Very subversive and cute! Maybe we'll see it again tomorrow night... another snowstorm is on its way, apparently.

Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm soo sorry for you kids, singerdave! At least two hours is better than nothing!

I am from the Panhandle of Texas and we got snow everyear, sometimes quite a bit of it too! However, it wasn't the norm to have lots of snow, so when two or three flakes started coming down - School Cancelled! - I think they were afraid of getting the buses stuck out in the country!

Two inches last night, and we're all home today!

And where am I? On the computer...

Braggart!

We spent about three hours outside this monring, shoveling the drive and playing in the snow. Good times, good times. Made the right start for the now-three day weekend!
Yeah, I'm bragging now.
