Turns out we have an interesting connection

Wrote my first piece of fan mail, to Kirsty Hawkshaw:

Hello Miss Hawkshaw,
I never ever ever write fan mail, and I try really hard not to write to people I haven't actually met, but I saw your name on a couple of websites and an album or two. See, I know your surname, and I thought I'd just pop you a line.

Turns out that while I was a missionary for the Mormon church in St. Albans Ward I visited your family's house. Back in 1992-ish. (I have been home from London for a long time now...) Now I remember: I spent Boxing Day 1991 at your family's gorgeous home. Played snooker in the room off the foyer, to the right, just off the fron door. You obviously weren't living there at the time, but your proud dad showed off a picture of you. I seem to remember a shaved head and some beads falling from a single lock. Sound like a familiar head shot?

That sounded really lame, reading back over it, so I think I'll try to do better in the following paragraph:

I bought "For the Kids Too" for... well, my kids. And they love it. They especially love your song at the end of the album. (They liked it even more when they found out my connection to your family...) Anyway, I started listening to some of your other work, and it's excellent as well. As you can tell by my email address, I think of myself as a singer, also. Studied a bit in college and stayed active in it afterwards. So I really like your stuff, and it's not just from some gaping slack-jawed know-nothing bozo fan.

Anyway, wanted to drop you this line, and I hope you're having an excellent weekend. You seem to be having an excellent career. Good luck to you in the future!

Yeah, what are the chances that she'd respond? Guess we'll find out.
