What I was thinking about on the Stairclimber this morning
Published on February 22, 2005 By singrdave In Diet
By my estimation, I am 25 pounds overweight. (If we're looking at the Army figures, I am actually about 40 pounds over their expectation for my height, age, etc.) By that reckoning, I need to burn 90,000 calories more than I take in to get myself back into shape. No pressure...
45 minutes on the stair climber becomes almost exactly 1000 calories. (It was actually 999 today. I am such a slacker.) I have tried to do other things in my spare time, but there is no other exercise machine that I enjoy more. Second place is the elliptical trainer, because there are more arm movements. But I can incorporate arms into my workout routine by pushing up on the side rails of the stair climber.
Anyway, my point is, it's hard to lose weight. I have tried many fad diets, all failed. Not that I have no self-control or willpower, because I do. But the standards set by Atkins, South Beach, Slim-Fast, etc., are just unsustainable. And, in my opinion, unhealthy. So I have taken to a calorie log, because, at the end of the day, it's just that you have to burn more calories than you take in.

I think I know who you are. SO, I thought I would just say hi. In case you dont know who I am by this monicker, its Greywar's esposa. Take care. The Army's standards are ridiculous. They should really change things.

Sierra Vista es muy pequeno y boringo. Pero estoy aqui because I asked to be aqui. Hmph. naahhh....everything is going well for me here. I will be out of a job though in October due to the merging of MOSs. But I am trying to stay here and teach J BNCOC or by then, Y BNCOC. Congrats on the baby, by the way.

I spent Feb on the "two slimfast shakes a day" and "a healthy choice dinner" at night plan. I also worked out twice a day for the entire month. Lost 7 pounds and 3% body fat. I've spent the first week of March putting off getting right back on that plan... Maybe tomorrow...

I can tell from the messages I've seen in Joeuser blogs that there is a great deal of confusion and concern about how to lose weight safely and easily and I'd like to help you to overcome those difficulties. The first step is that you have to want to do it. Lose weight that is. Then you have to want to keep it off, without adopting some kind of austere monk-like existence. OK? Then I can help you.

singrdave,

Good job on the first 1,000. In my own life I too wanted to lose weight following the same ideology. Eat less calories. Amazingly I found that if I increase veggies (which I happen to like) and decrease meat (to about 4 meals a week containing). I have lost 25 pounds and am being marveled at my performance on the bike. I haven't taken anything (enhancers) to warrant this. This is solely a result of my diet. Also I stay away from processed grains as they are 'empty' calories. The fact that you are working at it you have my respect. It isn't easy. KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!

I *am* still trying to keep it off, even though this thread was one of my first, over a year ago. Thanks to "online casinos uncovered", it has fresh interest from AD.

It's exciting to hear that you've been so successful in losing weight and maintaining your 25-pounds-down ideal. I wish I had your fortitude. Unfortunately I have a desk job and a snack bar within fifteen feet of my desk. Challenges indeed, but not insurmountable.

So thanks again for the great peptalk, AD. You keep up the good work, too.

I'm a desk jockey too. The beauty of this idea is you don't have to be working out a whole lot. I lost the initial 15 WITHOUT exercise. Not only that I work in a place where there is tons of chocolate. So I know about having bad food close to you. The biggest thing I can tell you is to take veggies. When you are hungry eat them. I take carrots, oranges, apples, etc. I eat almost all day and still consume around 1200 calories a day. It is about changing your lifestyle rather than diet. but the cool thing is that you don't have to fight 'hunger pains.' You can EAT. I like that. I know that many don't like veggies but it works. So my point is NO EXCUSES DAVE!!!! you can do it!
