How to raise good kids, by Lynn Spears?
Published on December 19, 2007 By singrdave In Movies & TV & Books
Lynn Spears, mother to Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears, is writing a new book about how to do some good ol', downhome Christian parenting. That book has been shelved by her publisher -- the release date has been pushed back indefinitely due to the unexpected pregnancy of her younger star daughter, Jamie Lynn.

Turns out the 16-year-old star of Zoey 101 announced to OK! Magazine that she is pregnant by her long-time co-star boyfriend Casey Aldridge, who was 18 at the time.

From SoFeminine.co.uk:
Britney Spears' sister Jamie Lynn is pregnant at the age of just 16.

Jamie Lynn has revealed she is "shocked" to be expecting her first child with boyfriend Casey Aldridge. She said: "It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected. I was in complete and total shock and so was he." The 'Zoey 101' star, who is 12 weeks pregnant, kept the news a secret until she got used to the idea. She told her mother Lynne shortly before Thanksgiving.

Jamie told America's OK! magazine: "I took two weeks to myself where I didn't tell anybody. Only one of my friends knew because I needed to work out what I would do for myself before I let anyone's opinion affect my decision. Then I told my parents and my friends. I was scared, but I had to do what was right for me. My mom was very upset because it wasn't what she expected at all. A week after she had time to cope with it and became very supportive."

Well... should I still get Christian parenting tips from Lynn Spears now?

Such a valuable resource for parenting advice, that mother of Britney.

It took this for them to decide she shouldn't be giving parenting advice?

Sure!  It is always better to learn from other people's mistakes than to make our own.

Who would have thought that sex could cause pregnancy? I guess she skipped sex-ed class...

What made me laugh about the article I read (linked from yahoo!) is that Lynne Spears talked about how her daughter has been dating this guy "for years...since she was in high school".

Uhh, earth to Mrs. Spears...your daughter still IS in high school! And if she were still around the ol' homestead, they wouldn't be talking about it in teen princess gossip rags, that's for sure.

Also, the nut doesn't fall far from the tree, does it?

I was going to make a list of celebrity Christmas gifts, and put a haircut kit on the list for Jamie Lynn. She's on the fast track to enjoying big sis flip outs, Vegas weddings, and wrecked marriages with backup dancers!

Boy, what a situation! What gets me is that she, the younger one, in fact both of them, have a kid following. Not a good example, but definitely one for other young girls to realise what they don't want to emulate. maybe this situation with Lynne will make other parents realise that they do need to discuss safe sex or abstinence with their daughters! No more burying their heads and hoping it never comes up! It always does!

One of the oddest things about this for me is that the book was to be published by Christian publishing house Thomas Nelson, Inc. What the? How could they not know this wasn't a good idea. Are they so holy that they don't watch TMZ? The press release read, "We’ve signed her to a deal. It’s a parenting book that’s going to have faith elements to it." It looks as if Thomas Nelson puts selling out to celebrity-driven blockbuster-mentality publishing above real family values. I've been surprised at other books they've chosen to publish. We may soon need to drop "Christian" when describing them.

(Even before I press "post comment" I sense this is the kind of comment which can be dug up years later and bite me. )

I guess it was an incredibly slow news day, because everybody is talking about it as if "teens + sex = babies" is a new concept.
