Workin' the magic with a local radio station
Published on June 12, 2006 By singrdave In Music
Got through to a local Baltimore radio station tonight, and won me some Guster tickets.

...

I have had luck with radio call-in contests before, having even won some Barenaked Ladies tickets off the radio before. But it's been a while, and I am glad that I still have the magic.

My history with Guster goes back about six years or so. Blame my Guster fandom on Y2K.
Saw them for the first time on 30 December 1999, playing on Conan O'Brien's show. Know how I remember that? I was staying up all night to see if the world would shut down, starting with Tonga and New Zealand, about 4:30 am. Staying up that night I saw Guster for the first time playing Conan. I was very impressed, but I may have just been sleepy...

Bought their next two albums, loved them both. Almost saw tham and BNL play together in San Francisco while we were stationed at DLI in Monterey, CA. Would've been a great show, but it was a school night and SF's about 2 hours' drive from Monterey. Not gonna happen -- the Army's kinda funny about who misses class.

They are great, an alt-folk group from Boston. The drummer plays the bongos like no one you've ever seen. They're eclectic and very very very good. Highly recommended.

July 11, Pier Six, downtown Baltimore. And it's FREE! Very cool indeed!

I even have their site linked on my JU site. That's how cool they are.
