Final ending supposedly revealed
Published on June 22, 2007 By singrdave In Fiction
Some internet hacker named Gabriel claims to have the final chapters of the Harry Potter manuscript, which he says he got by uploading a virus onto the publisher's servers. He then gives away the ending, which I am not going to share here.

From the Post Chronicle:

An Internet user with the handle Gabriel claims he got the ending to the new Harry Potter book by hacking into a computer at the book's British publisher. Bloomsbury is the publisher of J.K. Rowling's upcoming finale in the fantastical series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," which won't be for sale in bookstores until July 21. The hacker posted a message on the Internet Tuesday, providing a lengthy summary of what he contends is the ending to the tale -- and naming two key characters who die in the final installment.

Of course the publishing company won't confirm or deny the truthfulness of this internet spoiler announcement. They don't want to give this Gabriel any credence whatsoever, and hopefully what Gabriel has posted to the web isn't the actual ending. Gabriel claims this is so that Pope Benedict's edict against Harry Potter can be fully realized, by ruining the suspense over the final chapter of the seven-book series.

The alleged hacker indicates he has religious reasons for his Internet exploits, saying Pope Benedict XVI -- while a cardinal -- tied the Harry Potter books to increased neo-paganism among the young.

Yeah, I don't quite get it either, but that's what Gabriel claims.

It's really irritating for some joker to get their hands on the manuscript just so he can wreck the suspense for all of us. Do people have no shame? Can't we all just wait patiently, with bated breath, for the last Harry Potter? All I can say is, my wife and I want to read the book. My kids want to read the book. That's enough to make me wait for the actual book, not some cheap, poorly spelled spoiler.

You want to find out? Either wait till July... or just Google "gabriel harry potter" and you'll get his purported spoiler.

Besides, do you really want to know the ending?

No I can't find out! Ahh! I'm afraid to do any harry potter research until I read the book. July 21 can not come fast enough.....

I'll probably read the ending before I read the beginning. I hate mysteries. It's the questions that interest me, not the answers.

I read the story as well.  As for the Pope, he denied condemning it, and I for one am glad.  Literature is to be read and enjoyed, not worshipped as the path to nirvana.

Too true. It reminds me of the people who subscribed so much symbolism and importance to the 'Matrix' films or 'Star Wars'. They're just entertainment, people. However good Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows may be, it's just entertainment.

Honestly you have to really work to get the ending out of the tortured "English" posted by the hacker. Additionally spending much time at Insecure.org is almost the equivalent of begging to be hacked. I would advise staying away.

I know, huh? If Gabriel wanted to really convince us, he should've cut and pasted some well-written Rowling paragraphs into his incredibly poorly composed and spelled email. This guy barely speaks English himself.

If I'd stolen it, I'd have posted what I stole.

That makes me wonder though... Doesn't Rowling write in longhand? I wonder at what point her manuscripts get turned into computer files, and would that even be on a publicly accessible server?

I give it 90+% this is a hoax.

BTW, I have three guesses for which characters die, and that *SPOILER* has two of my three.
