Why they do what they do, in a nutshell

I think Iran is building its nuclear capability because it has two clear goals:

1) the destruction of Israel.

2) self-preservation. With Americans on either side of them, in Afganistan and Iraq, and a nuclear Pakistan, India, and China?

What are your thoughts?

Am I allowed to believe you at face value because what you're saying fits with my preexisting mindset? Or do I have to wait until you confirm that?

while i have yet to find the original article i described, here's a link to an article that refers to and paraphrases it.   i'll keep tryin.  http://www.iranian.ws/cgi-bin/iran_news/exec/view.cgi/2/3626

here's the relevant info from that link.   i don't recall any mention of missiles tho.  unless im way more senile than i realize, this guy was talking about not needing missiles cuz they could use suitcases.

To these facts add that an Arab newspaper published in London and Beirut reported that an Iranian intelligence unit has established a center called "The Brigades of the Shahids of the Global Islamic Awakening," controlled by a Revolutionary Guards intelligence officer, Hassan Abbasi. The newspaper has a tape recording of Abbasi when he spoke of Iran's secret plans, which include "a strategy drawn up for the destruction of Anglo-Saxon civilization."

Missile strikes

To bring this about, Abbasi said, "There are 29 sensitive sites in the U.S. and in the West. We have already spied on these sites and we know how we are going to attack them." This Revolutionary Guard officer continued by saying, "Iran's missiles are now ready to strike at Western targets, and as soon as the instructions arrive from Ali Khamenei, we will launch our missiles at their cities and installations."

Missiles are a necessity for Iran now, kingbee, because they have passed the point where they can sit and silently smile when people die wholesale. THey want people to live in fear of them, not their proxies. In order for Iran to have a power that they can impose on other nations they have to have a format for their terror that can't be diverted rhetorically.

If they rely upon terrorists to do their killing for them, then the terrorists will have the voice, and the terrorists will have the power, and in the end the job will be to defeat the terrorists instead of respecting Iran. What Iran wants now is to impose ITS will politically. It wants to be able to impose its agenda through direct threat, and you just can't do that when people can foil your third party terrorism.

In the end, the nutcases in Iran hate Israel, and feel that the way to destroy them is by direct action. Be it by using political leverage backed by threat, or through outright destruction, I think they are tired of sublimating their hate, and want to impose it in the most public and straightforward way possible.

I predict Israeli jets over Tehran in less than 18 months.

Singerdave, you're doing the Diplomacy thing right now, doesn't the strategy of the Western world negotiating through the UN, all the while relying on the Israeli's to provide pre-emption, thus providing western deniability?

Wouldn't surprise me if the Zionist used Russian maps.....and China's technology......
